CBIC Engages Tax Professionals on Major GST Reforms Following 57th GST Council Meeting

Chandigarh, 30 October 2026: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) organised a stakeholder outreach programme in Chandigarh to discuss the recommendations of the 57th GST Council meeting held on 8 October 2026.

The programme was conducted under the leadership of CBIC Chairman Shri Vivek Chaturvedi and CBIC Member Shri Sanjay Mangal, in the presence of Shri Shubh Chintan, Chief Commissioner, CGST Chandigarh Zone.

More than 200 participants, including taxpayers, tax professionals, industry representatives and trade associations, attended the programme. Senior CBIC officials addressed participants' questions concerning the GST Council's recommendations and their implementation.

Key Recommendations of the 57th GST Council

1. Simplified GST Registration: Recommendations include clearer documentation requirements and streamlined procedures for processing GST registration applications.

2. Faster GST Refunds: Proposed reforms aim to improve refund processing, reduce delays and support business working capital.

3. Input Tax Credit and Return Filing: The Council recommended measures concerning ITC eligibility, return filing and compliance simplification.

4. Simplified Compliance and Legal Procedures: Recommendations include reforms to adjudication, penalties, notices and enforcement procedures to reduce compliance burdens and unnecessary litigation.

Importance for Tax Practitioners

These developments are important for GST practitioners, tax consultants, accountants and businesses across Karnataka.

Tax professionals play a vital role in guiding taxpayers through regulatory changes, assisting with GST registration, filing returns, claiming refunds and ensuring statutory compliance.

The Karnataka State Tax Practitioners Association (KSTPA) encourages members to remain updated on official GST developments and to consult relevant notifications and circulars before advising taxpayers.

Important Advisory

The GST Council's recommendations do not automatically become enforceable law. Their applicability depends on the relevant statutory amendments, notifications, circulars and effective dates.
